For those with harsh allergies, chronic respiratory infections, COPD and similar ailments, maintaining good health and controlling symptoms is often a daily fight. And a lot of that fight is often because they stay indoors a lot, which unfortunately can easily expose them to more allergens, mold spores, and airborne bacteria, making matters already worse. Other than medications and breathing treatments, one effective course of action is cleaning up the indoor air-in a certain way.
With regard to cleaning up indoor air, we’re not talking about installing a better A/C filter, getting rid of indoor smoke, or turning vent hoods on to help remove pollutants, although those steps can help. We’re talking about the strength of using both an inexpensive whole house UV light air purifier system in combination with at the minimum one quality portable air cleaner in the room where the majority of time is spent. UV light air purifiers are highly germicidal and use intense ultraviolet light to kill live mold spores, bacteria, viruses and other germs floating by the air ducts of most homes. All you really need is one good, 36 watt unit placed in the output section of the HVAC or air conditioner system and after a few hours, pretty much anything that was living and floating in the air in your home will be dead-and this will help freshen the air, in addition. This step kills the airborne germs that usually cause chronic or repeat respiratory infections, harsh allergy attacks, already asthma.
The next step is to use a quality portable air cleaner, with a medical grade HEPA filter and a substantial carbon filter. Unlike cheap air purifiers, those from say, Aller Air, Austin Air, Blueair, Winix, etc have true HEPA filters that are certified to remove over 99% of all dust, dust mites, mold spores, and other particles as small as 0.1 microns. Quality activated carbon filters, such as those in Aller Air, Austin, and Blueair air purifiers are proven to remove over 99% of any chemical or odor kind pollutants, which often silently cause meaningful irritation of bronchial tubes and other areas in the airway, leading to increased medication use, limited mobility, more indoor time. (Winix units are cheaper but don’t have much carbon in their filters).
Believe it or not, most homes have a good amount of chemicals regularly being released and recirculated by the A/C system, and you have to have a good amount of quality activated carbon to remove them. shared supplies of these chemicals and gases are: household cleaners, paints, fiber, treated wood preservatives (often contains deadly arsenic), fragrances, solvents, pesticides, outdoor chemical pollution being brought in by the HVAC system and more. With a quality portable air cleaner running, however, these pollutants won’t get a chance to make symptoms continue or get worse-and the body might just get a chance to heal.
Why portable air purifier units instead of whole house systems? That’s because a good room air cleaner also removes the pollutants coming from the duct work; whole house air cleaners do clean the air, but the mold, bacteria, dust, etc stuck to the inside walls of the duct work after the whole house air cleaner nevertheless has a chance to blow out into your room–and a portable air cleaner will trap these pollutants before they get to you.
Using both UV light air purifiers and a good portable air purifier or two as a system can make a big difference in your health and overall comfort level if you have COPD, allergies, asthma or respiratory issues simply because the living organisms that were present in the air are now dead, and any particles or chemicals are now being removed by the quality HEPA and carbon filters in the air purifier(s). It just makes sense–kill and remove the offending particles, chemicals and germs floating in your indoor air, and your allergy, asthma, or respiratory symptoms will often subside and can already go away completely over time.
