In a few short months it went from being played by a few dozen people, to tens of millions and its global reach was assured when it was bought by The New York Times for an undisclosed sum.

Wordle has also inspired a number of other daily puzzles, such as the globe-trotting game Worldle and the math-based Nerdle.
